BIO Space Dolphin are a hip hop, improvisation outfit from Leeds UK, with aims to unite people together through a shared love of live music.

Born from an appreciation of groove and improvisation, Space Dolphin have been playing up and down the UK, collaborating with a plethora of talented musicians and MC's expanding their sound, ensuring each performance is as unique and bespoke as the tastes of each collaborative member.

Think 90’s boombap beats, jive ass bass, Tom Waits-esque guitar noodling with a sprinkling of Bill Evans for good measure. Space Dolphin are a band for stages of all sizes, from small personal gigs hosted in their homes to playing the main stage at Eden Festival 2019.

If you go to see them, expect positive energy, good vibrations and an abundance of pocket. Debuting in 2017, Space Dolphin performed with the likes of Fold for the launch of their E.P. Written In The Sky, and the likes of Motormouf, and Phenician Gold during Space Dolphin’s monthly hip hop night More Than Soul. These events are hosted between Nottingham, Leeds and Edinburgh. 2017 also saw Space Dolphin release their debut E.P. Hikikomori 引きこもり.

The band have featured at Dot to Dot Festival and the Hockley Hustle and were humbled to be invited to play Giles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival in 2019. Space Dolphin have been known to support first class acts such as the ‘Godfather of Neo-Soul’ Roy Ayers, Pete Cannon, Harleighblu, Subculture Sage, and NikNak. Currently the band are in the process of applying for funding in order to organise free workshops for financially challenged teenagers in Leeds to inspire the next generation of talent in the city in which they met. 2019 and 2020 will be a great year for Space Dolphin.

They've been finishing MMus Music degrees at Leeds College of Music, exploring new instruments and performance direction, creating new relations within the UK music scene and opening their own writing space/ rehearsal residency at The Chapel, Leeds. Space Dolphin are currently finishing up the festival season this year, with Hockley Hustle (October 27th) being their last scheduled show. They have begun the writing process for their new collaborative work which they intend on recording, coinciding with a UK tour to publicise this work. The work will be a collection of each collaborative member's unique production aesthetic, exploring their collaborative practise with other artists in the UK jazz community.
